Pool Interior Finish Disclosure

Texas Swim Up Ventures – Important Information for Homeowners

At Texas Swim Up Ventures, we believe in transparency and aim to ensure all homeowners understand the natural characteristics of modern pool interior finishes. The information below outlines what is considered normal, expected, and standard within the pool construction industry for plaster, pebble, and aggregate surfaces.

Natural Variations in Color & Appearance

Pool interior finishes are made from cement-based materials that naturally display shading differences, mottling, and color variation. These characteristics are normal and not defects. Environmental factors such as humidity, temperature, and substrate conditions during installation can influence these variations. They may appear more noticeable on cloudy days or when pool lighting is used at night.

Aggregate Texture & Density

Exposed aggregate finishes, such as pebble or quartz, naturally contain uneven aggregate distribution. Variations in aggregate density, texture, and concentration are expected and are inherent to the materials used. These characteristics are not considered workmanship issues. Interior finish evaluation should be done only when the pool is filled with water and observed under natural sunlight.

Color Expectations & Long-Term Behavior

  • Interior finishes cannot be guaranteed to cure to one uniform shade.
  • The final color may differ from samples due to environmental and material conditions.
  • Pigmented or colored finishes may gradually soften or lighten over time.
  • These natural changes do not indicate a defect.

Crazing (Hairline Cracks)

Crazing—fine, hairline cracks visible in certain light—is a natural occurrence as cement cures. These micro-cracks are more noticeable in colored finishes and are not considered structural issues or defects.

Importance of a Proper Start-Up Process

A correct start-up procedure is essential to help protect and properly cure a new interior finish. Following an industry-recognized start-up process helps minimize scaling, etching, staining, and long-term surface issues. Deviating from the recommended start-up procedure can permanently affect the appearance and performance of the interior finish.

Water Chemistry Responsibilities

After the pool is turned over to the homeowner, maintaining proper water chemistry becomes critical to the longevity of the surface. Water should be balanced according to professional standards, keeping the Langelier Saturation Index (LSI) between 0 and ±0.5.

Homeowners or their pool service provider must regularly maintain:

  • pH
  • Total alkalinity
  • Carbonate alkalinity
  • Calcium hardness
  • Cyanuric acid
  • Total dissolved solids
  • Free chlorine levels

Improper water chemistry may damage the interior finish and is not covered under warranty.

Filtration, Brushing & Ongoing Maintenance

Chemistry alone does not produce sanitary water. Homeowners must maintain a properly functioning filtration system and perform routine brushing and cleaning to ensure the surface cures properly and remains clean. Proper circulation and consistent upkeep are essential for both surface longevity and water clarity.

Homeowner Acknowledgment

By choosing Texas Swim Up Ventures for your pool installation, you acknowledge and accept that color variations, mottling, aggregate inconsistencies, crazing, and natural aging characteristics are inherent to cementitious pool finishes and are not defects. These characteristics should be expected with all plaster and aggregate interiors.
